LRO LAMP Release Notes Users are encouraged to provide comments to the PDS Imaging Node if errors are found either in data or in documentation in this archive. It is updated with each release of LAMP data. Section A of this document contains an entry for each ECAM release with general information about the contents of the release, in order from newest to oldest. Updates to previously released files are reported in these entries, along with any known errata. Section B of this file contains general notes, if any, concerning the archive as a whole. ******** SECTION A ******** Release 60 ========== Release 60 is the first release compatible with PDS4. All the same PDS3 files are present as in prior releases. Alongside those files now are PDS4 labels (ending in .xml). The document and calibration files have been extracted into a new area which will be updated only when they change (vs. PDS3 where the doc and cal files are included again in each release). Bottom line, it is a hybrid bundle. Processes designed to with with the PDS3 data should still work, while processes expecting PDS4 data will also work with the bundle. The XML labels for release 60 are correct. The incorrect labels for releases 56-59 (noted below) will be replaced as part of a backfill operation (delivering older data in PDS4 format) in the future. We discovered a way to make the original TIFF files compatible with PDS4 (by copying the acquisition list into a separate CSV file). Therefore, starting in release 60, we revert to the original format for these files, with the addition of the CSV and the PDS4 XML label (which points to both the TIFF and the CSV). Data for releases 56-59 will be redelivered in the original format as part of a future backfill operation. Release 56 ========== Although this is a PDS3-only release, some items relevant to PDS4 are listed here. As a precursor to official PDS4 support, XML labels have been included starting with release 56. However, these labels are incorrect in several details. They are not officially part of either the PDS3 or PDS4 archives and will be replaced in the future. As of release 56, the format of the TIFF data files changed somewhat, to accommodate PDS4. Specifically, the Acquisition List inside the FITS file was changed from ASCII text to binary. Note that the pointers to sections in the PDS3 label were not updated to match. This will be resolved in a future delivery. ******** SECTION B ******** Known Errors and Anomalies ========================== On 30 October 2020 (DOY 304), LAMP experienced an issue where it wasn't writing science data packets onboard. The files were being created, but were empty of content. This issue was resolved on 09 November 2020 (DOY 314) after the LAMP instrument was approved for reboot. Data during this period may be incomplete. At 04:19:32 UTC on October 5, 2016 (DOY 279), the LAMP failsafe door was opened. This increased the total size of the instrument's light-admitting aperture by about 10% of the size of the airglow aperture. FITS files containing data taken after this LAMP configuration change are identified by the keyword "FAILSAFE" (with value = "T") in their primary headers. The changes in previously delivered version 03 RDR files to take account of this change have been backed out of the version 04 RDR files contained in this delivery. A better calibration for data taken after the failsafe door opening will be included in a future version of the RDR files. The LAMP instrument was placed in SAFE MODE during extended portions of this data release time period due to extreme solar particle activity. On 31-May-2011 (2011151) the LAMP high voltage and discriminator level settings were changed to 5.0kV and 1.05V, respectively. The version 04 RDR files included in this release contain improved radiometric calibrations due to this change. However, additional calibrations are needed on account of the opening of the failsafe door (see below). Brief Description of Document Files =================================== Moat of these come from the PDS3 delivery and still have PDS3 label header information in them.
