This volume contains two spherical harmonic gravity models of Mars based on data from Mariner 9 and Viking. These models can be considered the baseline gravity models at the beginning of the MGS mission; they will be updated with data from the MGS Radio Science Subsystem (RSS) during the mapping phase of the mission. These data products do not contain any MGS data. The files are ASCII tables with detached PDS labels. Radio Science data are described in the VOLINFO file in the DOCUMENT directory.
GGM50A01.SHA
Gravity Model produced by Goddard Space Flight Center [PDS Label
GGM50A01.LBL]
JGM50C01.SHA Gravity Model produced by Jet Propulsion Laboratory [PDS Label JGM50C01.LBL]
Also on this volume is a digital map of Mars gravity accelerations based on the JPL-50C gravity model. The map shows vertical gravity in milligals at the surface referenced to a sphere of 3394.2 km radius. This map is in the form of an unlabeled raster image with 64-bit real pixels, which cannot be displayed in a Web browser. You may use your browser's Save As function to save it to disk. The file is JGM50C01.IMG in the RSS/IMG directory. It has a detached PDS label in JGM50C01.LBL in the same directory.
